Intro- There is a town in Columbia County Pennsylvania, named Centralia. Centralia is a small mining town that is now infamously considered the “city of fire”. In 1962 a great tragedy took place over the improper disposal of the town’s refuse. Centralia is literally a town whose underground is completely on fire. The fire started when the fire department tried to burn the contents of the towns’ land-fill. The problem is that the previous fires where never extinguished properly, thus creating an ongoing problem that no one ever paid attention to. Anger is just like that. If unchecked and non-extinguished, anger can burn from within you and flare up at any given moment.
Intro- If Psalm 1 is intentional in its position in the book (the overall first Psalm) then Psalm 2 is just as intentional in its setting. Psalm 1 begs the individual to know where he/she is going, and the inevitability of the path that they take. Psalm 2 makes the same appeal but on a universal level. This Psalm is considered a royal psalm which celebrates God as the true “King” of the world. There is a two-fold purpose for this Psalm in that it is meant to ease the minds of Israel who are dealing with the troubles caused by surrounding nations, as well as a calling to those nations to repent because God’s Kingdom is going to stand forever. Don’t fight it, God Reigns- Y’all better get used to it!!
